I heard a Rabbi years ago address this issue in an indirect manner. (Keep in mind that the following is a story that is not to be taken literally) It had to do with the actual day that Moses received the Ten Commandments. In the story Moses asked God for some slack. “Father God I’m 80 years old, you think we could use smaller font and put all Ten Commandments on one tablet, I’m getting old you know”. God replied “Moses there’s a reason for two tablets therefore leave the font alone.” Moses not knowing the reason for two tablets when one would obviously suffice, “Father God, I’m sorry why are you insistent on two tablets when one will suffice?”
God with a loving voice replied, “Moses, the first 5 commandments are to do with man dealing with authority and me. The second tablet has to do with how man reacts to man. When man loses his love and respect for me, the first tablet is thrown out. Then man will soon lose love and respect for his neighbor, which will eventually throw out the second tablet”.

Our framers were some smart dudes, they knew from history how the chips would fall.
