I work for the Forest Service and fight wildfire. I see nothing fishy about the “gender reveal” fireworks story. You would not believe the stupid things that people do on public lands! I don’t know about the solar radiation stuff, but here is the basic ecological explanation for the large fires that we see more and more. 100 years of fire suppression has allowed the forests to become homogenized and over grown. The lack of disturbance allows pest and disease to spread rapidly, and there are now vast areas of unhealthy fuel loading on the landscape. The lack of disturbance through fire (or in some cases logging) means there are no natural breaks in fuel type or density to keep the fires in check.
