I’m of the opinion that we were a post constitutional society with the passage of the federal reserve act, and will remain so if for no other reason than practicality; for example, does it really matter that the president is not commander in chief unless called into actual service by congress if we have thousands of nuclear weapons pointed at us that can shower us with multiple independent warheads within minutes of them being launched? The president’s ability to authorize the release of nuclear weapons without consulting congress is our deterrent so long as government exists, but if no government existed – there would be no threat in the first place no one would care about us because we would have no mechanism for involving ourselves in their affairs. I’m of the opinion that a libertarian’s goal should be the incremental dismantling of the government.
great points – agreed – but i feel we are heading into a post-ideology / post-libertarian world too
