I imagine the vow of obedience comes from the part of the Bible where Jesus is asked if his followers should pay taxes, and Jesus asks who’s image is on the coin; his follower says it’s Caesar’s image that is on the coin, and Jesus’ response is that his followers should give onto Caesar what is Caesar’s. For those of us who believe that religion in general, and Christianity in particular are institutions of social control-it’s a frequently cited part
i still dont buy that it is unequivocally telling us to pay taxes–it was cryptic…why?
