  1. โ€œA Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realmโ€ (commonly known as the “Clean Break” report) is a policy document that was prepared in 1996 by a study group led by Richard Perle for Benjamin Netanyahu, the then Prime Minister of Israel. The report explained a new approach to solving Israel’s security problems in the Middle East with an emphasis on “Western values”. It has since been criticized for advocating an aggressive new policy including the removal of Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq, and the containment of Syria by engaging in proxy warfare and highlighting their possession of “weapons of mass destruction”… Rather than pursuing a “comprehensive peace” with the entire Arab world, Israel should work jointly with Jordan and Turkey to “contain, destabilize, and roll-back” those entities that are threats to all three… Given the nature of the regime in Damascus, it is both natural and moral that Israel abandon the slogan comprehensive peace and move to contain Syria…โ€

    • I just printed that out a few weeks ago for fear it would disappear, but I guess it’s widespread enough for that not to happen. What I found most interesting about it, is that it recommended a revival of the concept of “preemptive war” – of course that’s just new speak for attacking other countries.

      • Yeah, and this was four years before September 11, 2001. The Pax Americana of the post September 11, 2001 era, which the Clean Break and PNAC documents outlined, is the exact opposite of the direction JFK wanted to begin taking America, which he expressed in his American University speech:

“I have, therefore, chosen this time and place to discuss a topic on which ignorance too often abounds and the truth too rarely perceived. And that is the most important topic on earth: peace. What kind of peace do I mean and what kind of a peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, and the kind that enables men and nations to grow, and to hope, and build a better life for their children — not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women, not merely peace in our time but peace in all time.” ~ President John F Kennedy (American University, June 10, 1963)
