First published in nineteenth-century Russia, ‘The Way of the Pilgrim” is an anonymous text that follows a wandering pilgrim whose life is transformed by a single verse from St. Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians: “Pray without ceasing.” Determined to discover what this command truly means, he sets out across the Russian countryside in search of someone who can teach him the mystery of unceasing prayer.
