The Second Amendment is not about duck hunting. And I know I’m not going to make very many friends saying this, but it’s about our rights–all of our rights–to be able to protect ourselves from all of you guys up there.

Chuck Schumer does not look amused.

  1. I remember the Luby’s shooting. And the San Ysidro McDonald’s shooting before that. I’m even old enough to remember the UT Austin Texas Tower shooting. Sad to say but mass shootings are nothing new. The Second Amendment really has nothing to do with personal gun ownership, it has to do with the federal government arming a citizen militia. The right of private gun ownership is assumed and presupposed, and the Founders felt it unnecessary to enumerate that right, because it was universally accepted by all and threatened by none. The Ninth Amendment covers the right of private gun ownership: “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”
