Philip Seymour Hoffman vs William Stewart Halsted

Two of my brothers were hardcore heroin addicts. One quit, the other died. As a matter of fact, off the top of my head, I could name a half a dozen people in my family circle who died from drug abuse. Even short of risk of death, I think getting high every day, whether from illegal drugs, prescription meds or alcohol, is way more trouble than it’s worth, and I have seen people I loved degenerate into something less than fully human after transmogrifying into junkies.

For these reasons, it is understandable why I don’t take lightly my adherence to the libertarian principle that people are inherently free to abuse themselves, but I do believe neither the state nor the citizenry have the right to forcibly prevent an individual from using drugs for recreational purposes.

Duck Dynasty Dust-Up

Unless I really can’t avoid it, I do avoid discussing divisive “wedge” issues on the air, and I did not make an exception for the Duck Dynasty dust-up, but I do want to take this opportunity to express one heartfelt view I have. I feel strongly that the American people, gay or straight, black or … Read more

Thankfulness Is in the Eye of the Beholder

If you’ve ever listened to my show or perused my website you probably know my story, but I’ll sum it up just in case. I’m the youngest of nine in a blue collar family. We always had what we needed but not much of what we wanted. My parents loved us, worked hard, blah blah blah, but I wanted stuff and I dedicated my whole existence to getting out of my parents’ house and having all the things I needed and wanted: a dry towel after a shower, a whole half a bed, name-brand ice cream–ya know, the finer things in life. In pursuit of theses dreams, I worked like a dog waitressing six nights a week while going to community college, transferring to Harvard on a full scholarship and ultimately getting a JD-MBA from Stanford. In the course of these pursuits, I accumulated mass quantities of debt and found the man of my dreams (or at least the raw material out of which that man could be crafted). I became an investment banker to pay the debts off–and to start racking up the towels and ice cream–and in thinking I could have it all, I moved to Dallas from Money-Making Manhattan to accommodate my husband’s career, maintain my own and even start a family.

Unfortunately, shortly after the wedding and the move to Dallas,

Miriam Who?…Some Facts About the Woman Gunned Down in DC

My mother doesn’t follow me down the rabbit hole. She’s an 84 year-old libertarian who calls Ron Paul “my sweetie” and defended Joe McCarthy always, but she says she’s just too tired at this point to think very hard. She won’t follow my logic about what’s wrong with the official account of the Boston Marathon Bombing and she doesn’t understand why I think Edward Snowden is “fake” or why I would even care to wonder. So when she called me, distraught about the terrible fate of Miriam Carey and insisted, “Someone has to speak for that woman!” I decided to tell what I have learned of Miriam’s story on the air and to outline the whole horrible tale in writing in one place, just for the record. I don’t have any firsthand information on the case and other bloggers have pointed out the curious facts that undermine the official narrative, but here I offer Miriam’s story in its entirety as a small testament to this apparently lovely woman who will definitely not get justice. . . .

Miriam Carey was the 34 year-old single mother who drove with her one year-old daughter, Erica, 270 miles from her home in Stamford, Connecticut, to the White House and claimed Obama was trying to communicate with her. The official story has Miriam “ramming a barricade” at the first White House checkpoint then speeding off to ram another barricade outside the Capitol; then, after being pursued by law enforcement and crashing near a guardhouse, Miriam was shot by Capitol Police and the Secret Service. 12 bullets penetrated her body, ending her life and disfiguring her to such an extent that her family did not identify her remains except from photos. Luckily, Baby Erica was not hit by gunfire, nor was anyone in law enforcement.

The problem with this version of events offered by authorities and faithfully reported by the mainstream media is that none of the details stand up to scrutiny.

Dollars for Terror: A Review

In Dollars for Terror, Swiss journalist Richard Labévière lays out a convincing case that the United States, through its proxy, Saudi Arabia, guided the evolution of Islam, cultivating radical strains of Sunni Islamism to combat the modernizing and stabilizing trends of Arab nationalism which threaten US domination of the Middle East.
Written in 2000, Dollars for Terror predates 9/11 and calls into question the premise that Islamic terrorism against the United States is a spontaneous expression of Muslims “hating us for our freedoms.” Labévière instead sets out to demonstrate that radical, political Islam is a calculated tactic used to facilitate Saudi hegemony and American mastery over the oil-rich region stretching from North Africa through the Middle East and across Central Asia.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev Was a Radical Islamist AND a Right-Wing Extremist?

Today’s Wall Street Journal had an article on the cover page titled Boston Bombing Suspect Was Steeped In Conspiracies. At first I didn’t know what they were going for. I thought perhaps the media/government thought it would be handy to be able to blame the Boston Marathon Bombing both on radical Islamists AND right-wing extremists … Read more

It's Not Right vs. Right, It's Us vs. Them

Much is being made in the news right now about a GOP that is pulling itself apart. The common representation of the struggle is that it is a battle between the far right and the far, far right, or as Mother Jones framed it in describing the Karl Rove PAC dedicated to supporting hand-picked Republicans … Read more

Question: How Many Islamic Terrorists Marry into Skull & Bones Families?

Answer: One. Or none, if you don’t think Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a jihadist and think instead that he was a patsy as his dead friend Ibragim Todashev did.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the dead Boston Marathon Bombing “Suspect #1,” was married to Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, daughter of Yale graduate, Dr. Warren King Russell II. Knowing of Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s CIA connections and that Yale has deep links to the CIA, I wondered if Katherine’s family had any CIA connections itself. I thought perhaps Katherine and Tamerlan’s meeting was not as random as the nightclub story that is part of the official narrative. (How many radical Islamists pick up their future wives at nightclubs?)
Ends up, Katherine’s grandfather, Richard Warren Russell, was not only a Yale graduate as her father was, but was a member of Skull & Bones, the paradoxically well-known secret society. I happen to be reading a book I found through my research into tax exempt foundations following the recent IRS scandal, called America’s Secret Establishment: An Introduction to the Order of Skull & Bones, by Antony Sutton, a Stanford Hoover Institution fellow. In that book, Richard Warren Russell is listed as one of the 15 annual Skull & Bones initiates for the year 1951. In addition, Richard Warren Russell’s obituary lists him as being a member of counter-intelligence for the US Army after graduating from Yale, which is not unlikely given that the connections between Yale and the intelligence community are particularly strong within Skull & Bones. (The Robert DeNiro movie The Good Shepherd highlights these connections.)
